KALOYAN ILIEV – KOKIMOTO

Kaloyan Iliev – Kokimoto is a contemporary visual artist who lives and works in Varna and Sofia, Bulgaria. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of „St. St. Cyril and Methodius“, Veliko Tarnovo, and specialized in the graphic department of the Academy of Arts in Lodz, Poland. Kokimoto has realized over 35 solo exhibitions in Varna, Plovdiv, Sofia, Belgium and Denmark. He has participated in over 190 group exhibitions, contemporary art festivals, annuals, biennials and triennials of drawing, graphics and collage throughout the world.

In his works, he recreates the relationships between himself and others in the conditions of a manipulated reality. He works with pre-existing visual material, which he enriches with his own narrative concepts. The unusual and dark worlds that he presents in graphics, drawings, collages, photographs and installations are the fruit of memories and creative inventions. He is interested in various social problems – the new world order, the role of icons in modern society and the treatment of animals are just some of the topics he touches on repeatedly in his works. From religion in politics to absurdity in everyday life, his creations also show an interest in emotional and mental states such as narcissism, longing for love and beauty.
